Box 10b Tudor Court: Queen Elizabeth I and a Courtier

This box offers pupils a chance to study Queen Elizabeth I at both Key stage 2 and 3. The costumes may be worn by pupils at Key stage 2 as a role play exercise and can be used to study the lives of rich people during the Tudor period. At Key Stage 3 they may be used as sources of evidence for discussion about life at Tudor court.

Ideal for use with Key Stage 2, in a broader history study post 1066.
Can also be used with Key Stage 3, studying th development of church, state and society in Britain 1509-1745.

Key learning objectives

  • History: To enable pupils to explore what life was like at court during Queen Elizabeth’s reign by wearing costumes during role play and by taking part in group activities.
  • Speaking and Listening: To encourage pupils to work effectively as a member of a group using speaking and listening skills.
  • Literacy: To explore life in the Tudor Court through secondary sources.

Box contents

  • Costumes include Queen Elizabeth I silver dress and a typical Courtier’s outfit with ruff and hat with feather.
  • Resources include teacher’s notes, books, posters and labels for display.

Hiring a box

Collect on a Monday between 12pm and 5:30pm, and return on a Friday before 5:30pm.
Closed 1pm to 1.30pm.
