In 2016 young people from Highcliffe School and Forest Youth Theatre in the New Forest found out about local medieval history, through site visits to Red House Museum and Christchurch Castle and historical interpretation work. The groups worked with heritage and arts professionals, building up to running their own exhibition and all-age community event in the summer which included archery, a medieval kitchen and craft activities in addition to processional theatre, music and film.
This project was run by Hampshire Cultural Trust’s Better Life Chances team and funded by the Young Roots funding stream of the Heritage Lottery Fund. It was part of 2016's ‘Royal Blood’ Big Theme.
