We welcome research visits to the various collections in our care. Unfortunately, we have a limited number of staff and very restricted space for research so an appointment is always necessary. Please contact the collection manager of the collection you wish to visit in order to make the appointment and to discuss your particular requirements.
Researchers must be over 18 or accompanied by an adult. Please let us know if you have any mobility or other difficulties when you request an appointment so that we are better prepared for your visit.
Appointments are normally available between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, by arrangement with the member of staff concerned. Access to some collections, such as the biology collections, is available at other times, including weekends, also by arrangement.
Most researchers will need to visit Chilcomb House, our Winchester headquarters. This has limited free parking and is close to St Catherine’s Park and Ride which is served by buses every 15 minutes from Winchester train and bus stations. We regret that there are no restaurant facilities on site although a suitable space is available to eat a packed lunch, and tea and coffee can be provided.
