J.M.W. Turner was arguably the greatest practitioner in watercolour the world has ever seen. Contemporaries were so dazzled by his achievements that they described him as a magician.
Join curator of the ‘Turner and the Sun’ exhibition, Nicola Moorby, as she examines Turner’s watercolour practice and unlocks the mysteries behind his ‘magic’.
Nicola Moorby is an independent art historian. Formerly a curator and researcher at Tate Britain she curated a number of exhibitions including Turner and the Sea (2005-6) and Colour and Line: Turner’s Experiments (2008-present) and worked extensively on the updated online catalogue of the Turner Bequest. She is also co-editor and author of How to Paint Like Turner (Tate Publishing, 2010), which you will be able to purchase on the evening.
This event takes places in the Performance Hall, Winchester Discovery Centre. The Gallery will stay open until 7.30pm if you wish to see the exhibition before the talk.
