About the Artist
Sarah’s fascination and passion of illustrating the natural world stems from childhood and throughout her life this has followed her alongside her main careers, in education for nearly 20 years and latterly in conservation. Her work in education now continues - in lifelong learning, as she teaches courses and workshops in Hampshire and Dorset, in botanical art and natural science illustration.
Watercolour is the predominant medium she uses, but her detailed work is also portrayed using graphite pencil, pen and ink, and also gouache. In addition she is fascinated by painting on vellum and really values the beautiful qualities of painting on this challenging medium. She is particularly inspired by the plants and species found in ancient habitats, such as ancient woodland and hedgerows.
