Box 39 Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day has been commemorated for almost 100 years and with the use of this box children can explore what and why we remember. The box contains a World War I soldier’s clothing and belongings along with a selection of photographs, and poppies from the Royal British Legion Poppy appeal. This box is useful as an introduction to Remembrance Day as well as being useful throughout the study of the topic.

Ideal for use with Key Stage 1, year 2
Also useful with Key Stage 3, Year 9

Key learning objectives

  • History: To enable pupils to explore Remembrance Day through handling artefacts, costume and by taking part in group activities.
  • Speaking and Listening: To encourage pupils to work effectively as a member of a group, using speaking and listening skills.
  • Literacy: To explore the Great War and Remembrance day using a variety of different sources of evidence.

Box contents

  • Artefacts and Costume include a Great Coat from WWI, a soldier’s kit bag and supplies, photographs, postcards and poppies.
  • Resources include Newspaper cuttings, Hampshire in the Great War, QCA scheme of work, British Legion resource pack and labels for display.

Hiring a box

Collect on a Monday between 12pm and 5:30pm, and return on a Friday before 5:30pm.
Closed 1pm to 1.30pm.
