Rockbourne Roman Villa is a fantastic resource for schools studying the Romans in Britain. The villa is the largest known Roman villa in the area and its history spans the period from the Iron Age to the 5th century AD.
The Community Engagement and Learning Team offer a lively and hands on programme to schools, which can be tailored to meet the needs of your pupils. Museum-led visits are aimed at KS2, but can be adapted to suit KS1 or KS3.
Museum led visits are available Monday-Wednesday from April to the end of July.
*In September the site will be open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays, schools are welcome to book self-led group visits during this time.
Roman Discovery (half day programme for upto 33 pupils)
Meet Musa, the Villa’s mistress, and discover what life was like for Slaves in Roman Britain. Pupils will have the opportunity to dress as Roman slaves and participate in the following activities:
-Exploration of the Site: interactive tour of this unique site with activities built into the programme.
-Museum Curator: this includes object handling and display making in the museum with a learning facilitator.
Session length: 2hrs
Price: £120.00 for upto 33 pupils
Slaves for a day (whole day programme for upto 33 pupils)
This would incorporate the ‘Roman Discovery’ programme outlined above plus the Slaves for a day' programme. The class will have the opportunity to take part in one of three activities outlined below:
-Roman ink making & writing Latin inscriptions.
-Creating scented votives for the Roman God's, using real herbs from the garden.
-Making a Roman mosaic

Toilets and picnic area available. Schools are encouraged to book museum-led sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when the site is closed to the general public. Access to the gift shop must be prearranged. Self led school visits can only book on Thursdays and Fridays from April-July.
